NFPA 34 addresses dipping, roll coating, flow coating, and similar processes using flammable or combustible liquids. Parallel to the requirements in NFPA 33 for spray application, this documents provides rules for:

- Ventilation requirements

Major changes in the 2007 edition:
- Provisions for hazardous location electrical utilization equipment and wiring have been revised to correlate with the 2005 NFPA 70: National Electrical Code®
- New diagrams illustrate electrical area classification around open dipping and coating processes
- Maximum quantities of flammable and combustible liquids revised for consistency with NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code.
- Protection requirements completely revised to correlate with the 2007 edition of NFPA 33: Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials, incorporating all necessary interlocks.
- Added requirements address solvent recyclers.
